Races of D'Tanile

Humans
Along with the Elves, Humans are most commonly found in Nin. They greatly resemble Earth Humans in both appearance and nature. Anyone who has mixed ancestry, but has mostly Human blood, is considered Human.

Elves
Along with Humans, Elves are most commonly found in Nin. They are, on average, a little taller than Humans and sport long, thin, pointed ears and sometimes differently colored hair and eyes. Their coloring, appearance, and nature can vary slightly depending on their ancestry and where they were born & raised; an Elven family living in a cold area would have children with light colored skin and hair and who are more resistant to cold weather. Anyone who has mixed ancestry, but has mostly Elven blood, is considered Elven.

Druirins
Also called Demi-Humans
Druirins are most commonly found in Ciel. They vary widely in appearance, as Druirins are a humanoid race that has the characteristics of animals, such as tails, claws, fur, feathers, and more. Most commonly, Druirins are feline, canine, avian, or reptillian in appearance, but other types of Druirins are not unseen. For ages, the Druirins were enslaved by the Dragons; many of them still serve the Dragons in one capacity or another, but others have managed to escape the eastern continents and fled to Aryena, Reisis, Detienne, and even Nin. They are rarely referred to as Demi-Humans, as that name is considered insulting and degrading by most Druirin. Anyone who has some Druirin blood is generally considered to be Druirin, especially if they are at all animal-like in appearance.

Dragons
Dragons are most commonly found on the islands if Isadore; some have left to live on Ciel, but they are very rarely seen anywhere else. The Dragons are a proud and ancient race and claim to be the first sentient race on D'Tanile. For ages, and still even now, Druirins have served the Dragons, usually as slaves. While the Dragons are not openly hostile with the Humans and the Elves, there is, at best, an uneasy truce between them. Dragons have the ability to take either their native (draconian) form, or a humanoid form, though even in their humanoid form, they retain some of their draconian features. While in their humanoid form, Dragons can mate with other humanoid races, though they very rarely do, so half-Dragons are extremely uncommon.

Deified
Also called Deified Ones, Immortals
The Deified are extremely rare; only a handful of them exist in all of D'Tanile. They are described as being exotic and even monsterous in appearanceare. Deified are immortal (hence their alternate name) in the way that they will never die of old age, though they are not completely invincible to physical harm. They are solitary beings and rarely seen among the other races of the world, though they seem to have a certain affinity with the Elemental Orbs.

Spirits
Spirits can be found across all of D'Tanile, though they are relatively uncommon. They are the essence of the world's magic, and are a manifestation of the elements, such as fire and wind. Most spirits are single-elemental, but a few (sometimes called High-Level Spirits) are comprised of multiple elements (for example, Storm Spirits are a manifestation of thunder and wind.) Though Spirits are sentient, they have no physical form of their own; instead, they generally choose a host being and take up residence inside the host's body, creating an almost symbiotic relationship. Once a Spirit and a host are bonded, they share each others' thoughts and emotions; the host also gains much of the Spirit's elemental power. The Spirit can also choose to remain completely inside the host's body (in which case the host would appear completely normal, and no one else would be aware of the Spirit's pressence), or take on a physical form, and Spirits can alternate between these two forms at will. Spirits can also change their physical forms depending on the situation (and the host's wishes), though most Spirits will choose a familiar form that they prefer to be in when they take physical form. Once bonded, Spirits will usually heed their host's commands, and Spirit and host will generally stay together until the host dies, though on rare occasions, Spirits will leave their host for other reasons. It is unclear how or even if Spirits die and reproduce; they are commonly thought of as being immortal.
