Magic of D'Tanile


Mental Magic
Usually referred to as telepathy or telekinesis, mental magic stems directly from the user's own mental strength. It has no elemental affinity and usually has a direct effect on objects or others' minds.

Energetic Magic
Energetic magic is born of the six Elemental Orbs. Individuals with the gift of manipulating their energy can tap into the power of the Orbs in order to cast a variety of elemental magics. Since the Orbs are limited in scope, the power and elements available are also limited. Individuals born with the ability to access this energy are called natural mages.
With time and study, a mage can summon an elemental being. Summons are unique to the individual, the very basic expressions of their being. Mages who can do so are called energy summoners. The manifestations, while powerful, have no consiousness and are subject only to the mage's commands.

Spiritual Magic
Spiritual magic relies on a symbiotic species native to D'Tanile. Having no natural, physical form, they are called Spirits by many. Each has an elemental nature, and in some cases they will bond with an individual, giving them access to their powers in exchange for taking residence. Individuals with a hosted Spirit are called spiritual mages. The host's borrowed powers include very strong access to a single element. Though multiple Spirits can be hosted, it's a great strain on the individual and rarely attempted.
A spiritual mage can manifest his or her element in a more powerful form, summoning it into the physical realm to aid him or her. This summon can take any form, though it tends to adopt a familiar one for convenience's sake. The summon, being a manifestation of the hosted Spirit, is conscious, but it will frequently follow orders unless they conflict with its sense of self-preservation.
